Default Haiti airport update for general aviation

As of 1500 EDT: Port Au Prince ACC states they are accepting overflights through their airspace. Port AU Prince (MTPP) is open to Humanitarian flights only and Cape Haitian (MTCH) Airport is open for all aircraft.

(MTPP) Update: The runway is reported to be in good condition the ATC Tower has been evacuated, the runway lights are working and there is no obvious damage to the Tarmac. No official reports on the status of the VOR and ILS.

Hope this helps anyone trying to get people out of Haiti

    Helpful first post. Thank you.
You know that guy LAbull on L4P, that's me, Brendan. Warning: If I typed it and it seems a bit off, it's probably SARCASM.

No problem- One more note is that fuel will be in very short supply on Haiti so any aircraft going down should be a Mid-Jet or Heavy Jet so re-fueling is not an issue.

I will update further when more info become available

Didn't know we had that many private travelers to the Haiti area. Here some info from the wire:

    Latest Additional Info:

INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM PORT AU PRINCE CENTER IS THAT THEY ARE NO
LONGER ACCEPTING ARRIVALS INTO MTPP DUE TO RAMP SPACE ISSUES. AFTER
2300Z, PORT AU PRINCE AIRPORT WILL BE AN UNCONTROLLED AIRPORT. PORT
AU PRINCE ACC WILL ALSO CLOSE AT 2300Z. FURTHER INFORMATION WILL
FOLLOW TOMORROW AFTER GROUND AND AIR TRAFFIC ASSESSMENT.

A bunch of gas powered italian, german, japanese, and american things with four wheels. On order is a bunch of the same, and previously I had a bunch of the same. Oh and I fly, tool around on boats, and have been known to ride motorcycles.

Believe it or not. I have received several calls today for flights to MTPP and flights out of MTPP. It is going to be dicey no matter what happens as the UN has taken control of the airport and several large transports are sitting on the runway with no operating control tower.

    thanks for updates as well.

    1/14 update

GROUND STOP ALL FAA FACILITIES FOR FLIGHTS TO MTPP IS EXTENDED UNTIL
    0100Z.

AIRBORNE HOLDING IN EXCESS OF 2 HOURS CONTINUES IN ZMA AIRSPACE.
RAMP CONGESTION AT MTPP CONTINUES WITH MINIMAL SPACE FOR ADDITIONAL
ACFT. PORT AU PRINCE ATC IS SLOWLY ACCEPTING ACFT BUT UNLESS ACFT
BEGIN TO DEPART MTPP IT IS EXPECTED THEY WILL STOP TAKING ARRIVALS
SHORTLY. PIREPS REPORT APPROX 10-12 ACFT PARKED ON THE RAMP WITH AN
ADDITIONAL 20 ACFT PARKED ON THE GRASS AND SURROUNDING AREAS.

HUMANITARIAN FIGHTS ARE RELEASED ON INDIVIDUAL BASIS DEPENDING ON
THEIR PRIORITY AND THE AIRPORT ABILITY TO EXCEPT FLIGHTS. FOR
APPROVAL WITH THESE HUMANITARIAN FLIGHTS, PLEASE CALL FAA RECOVERY
    DESK AT 703-925-3011 OR 866-654-2005.
    WILL PROVIDE UPDATES WHEN AVAILABLE.

    1/15

THE GROUND STOP FOR MTPP, PORT AU PRINCE HAS BEEN CANCELED. AIRBORNE
HOLDING OVER THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS HAS BEEN IN EXCESS OF 3 HOURS
AND THIS AMOUNT OF HOLDING WILL POSSIBLY CONTINUE DURING THE NEXT
SEVERAL DAYS AS CONDITIONS AT THE AIRPORT ARE NOT EXPECTED TO
    IMPROVE.

THE HAITIAN AUTHORITIES CONTINUE TO ACCEPT TRAFFIC FROM ZMA,
AS WELL AS OTHER ACC'S, AT A VERY SLOW RATE SO EXCESSIVE HOLDING AND
    DIVERSIONS ARE A STRONG POSSIBILITY.

AIRPORT RAMP CONGESTION AND PARKING REMAINS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM
WHICH COULD RESULT IN ADDITIONAL AIRBORNE HOLDING. GROUND STOPS
COULD BE IMPLEMENTED IF HOLDING OCCURS AND IMPACTS THE ZMA
    OPERATIONS.
