BREAKING NEWS — The U.S. Coast Guard reports one of its planes has collided with a military aircraft east of San Clemente Island, off the coast of Southern California.
There were seven people on board the C-130 plane that is missing and two in the helicopter, Ian Gregor of the FAA told local news media.
Cpl. Michael Stevens said the helicopter is an AH1-Cobra, which is classified as a light attack helicopter.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Allyson Conroy said several vessels were scouring the area.
Earlier, the Coast Guard had said a Navy helicopter crashed into the sea.
Petty Officer Henry Dunphy said the Navy reported the crash at about 7 p.m. Thursday. The helicopter went down about 17 miles east of San Clemente Island, the farthest south of the Channel Islands.Hidden Content

When I was in the navy I spent alot of time by San Clemente Island....
I know the area well.
It's even more tragic when a loss happens in this way.
