    Default Bear VS Plane

Apparently a bear attacked his plane while parked in a remote field up in Alaska.

He had not cleaned out the inside after a long fishing trip and the bear smelled it.

He had 2 new tires, 3 cases of duct tape and several rolls of cellophane delivered.
Then went about repairing the plane so he could fly it home.

    Gutsy, to say the least...

What is the skin usually made of? It doesn't appear that there any structural damage so wouldn't it still fly well if he replicated the original material of the skin.

painted canvas.. Guaranteed that duct tape was stronger than the original skin.

Seems like theres a little missing in this story. like why would the bear destroy both tires?

Its a 1958 Piper P-18A 150 w/ lycoming.. Theres a yellow one next to our hangar here. Its quite a ride! Cellophane and ducttape isnt much of an upgrade from the ceconite skin that was on it! But look at the right side horizontal stabilizer! Gratuitous use of stick on the way home Im sure!

But as a pilot, I just dont see how he got it home with that stabilizer that badly damaged.
