domestic first class is almost a waste. international first class on a domestic carrier blows--flight attendants are old and not so courteous and seats suck.

Like he mentions in the video, this is for people who are already traveling tremendous amount. Maybe a DJ, that travels city to city everyday, an accountant going for audit in different locations. If you already making that many trips, this is just an extra. However to forcibly travel just to get this makes no sense.

That video is a huge misrepresentation of airline loyalty programs and complimentary upgrades. I can tell you first hand from being a United and American Elite, it is far from every time regardless of status level and fare class. Additionally its only on domestic flights for some carriers like United. The airlines are finding new ways to reduce the number of free upgrades to everyone through a pay system and reducing the number of first class seats on a plane. When you fly major routes that have first class, there are dozens of people on the upgrade list trying to get only 1 or 2 open seats. Its really a much more complicated system and program than how the above video portrays.

This. I've been US Airways preferred for years, and I can usually get upgraded pretty easily on regional flights, but any major route, it's close to impossible. Not to mention they keep upping the miles required for each status level, and reducing the number of miles/segments you get for certain flights. I remember when first class was 6 rows or more. Now it's 3 or 4 if you're lucky.
