Ciaran, thanks! Was just looking over your incredible work... absolutely mind-blowing!
I start with a pencil sketch, then usually drop in some color with Copic markers... they seem to offer the best texture and fill for my style. From there, I begin to re-draw a lot of the piece in Illustrator, using the pen tool (I'm not a fan of brushes or other pre-set nonsense... I'm too much of a control freak). Once I have a piece close to the look I'm after, I'll do a little post work in Photoshop or Painter (depending on the look I'm after, how much time I have, etc), and, following print output, I'll go back in with markers, paint, airbrush and more, just to complete the analog-to-digital-back-to-analog circle. I have a full-on tutorial/step-by-step book and video in the works, so you can be bored in multi-media with the whole process, too... Always glad to help with questions, whatever. (I'd love to pick your brain on your process! You have a deft hand, to say the least!)
Been a while, and didn't want to post this before I gave it to Jerry, but here's his '51 Merc, 'Reprise', which debuted at SEMA (built by Max Fish)... mixed media on canvas (approx 20x16-inches)... and, why not... the tees I whipped-up for the car, as well.
