View Full Version : WHITE SUPERLEGGERA - TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY??

Wendy1234

Hi everyone, I need some help. My friend is selling his white superleggera. Just a little background. He's the original owner, babies the car, has 6000 miles on it and it's 560 hp. He wants to sell it for $170,000. I was thinking more like $160,000. This would be my first exotic purchase and I'm nervous because it's expensive. I've driven it and it's a lot of fun, not to mention the way the engine sounds, WOW! Do most people finance exotics? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much. See my pics of it.

odd posts...but if legit; something is fishy there. even @160k, thats too high. unless the car is modded, it does not have 560HP (i have owned myself). and if u are willing to spend 160-170k...find yourself an LP560, it will be MUCH easier to drive, and it really has ~560HP.

enjoy.

When he purchased it, he had a "chip" installed so it is 560 hp. It was done by the dealer where he purchased it.

hmm, average price for 5,000 miles is $156,000 so one with 6,000 for $170,000... yeah its rare, but if you could work out $160,000 with him, that would be a fair price!

Thank you for posting the duPont registry superleggeras. I'm just wondering if a white one would cost more because there are less made? hmmmmmmm. He's asking $170,000 with 6000 miles. Although it's in superb condition, is this too high? Thanks again. Wendy:ohwell:

There was an 08 white SL at Lambo Newport Beach and another in Arizona/Scottsdale for sale about 8-10 months ago. I want to say they went in the high 150s, but I do not remember. If you can find out, that might give you some idea of what to pay. As has been said already, this is one of those cars that you just buy it because you want this exact car, since they aren't available on the market much.

Hi Nick:

Are you a dealer? How do you have 2 whites? I have applied for financing for the white one and it all depends on if my friend is willing to drop the $170K price. I won't pay that. Can you tell me the specifics of the 2 white ones, how many miles, has anything been done to them, how much hp (his is 560 hp), camera, GPS (I don't care about the carbon ceramic brakes as I won't be on a track), etc. Where are the cars located, are they under warranty, how many owners.

Thanks,
Wendy

Hi NMT - I'm not sure what info you are looking for. At present I might be getting my friend's white superlegger, 6000 miles, 560 hp, GPS, camera, etc. However and a big however, he want $170K for it and I think it's too much for the car from what people have been saying in this forum. White is my favorite but if I can't get that one, I also like the stealth grey although I've never seen that in person. What do you drive? Wendy

I think he is looking for a phone number so he can give you details. Nick is a sponsor on this site. Generally, when deals happen, they happen over the phone and not on a public forum. Time to legitimize yourself and make a call.

My friend who has the white SL had a Gallardo before it. He said that SL is much better. He had some issues with the Gallardo and none with the SL. I love the way the SL looks, especially in white. The stealth grey is nice too although I've only seen photos. - Wendy

I checked the air in the tires and filled them up yesterday (basic stuff but for me, I'm such a novice). He'll show me how to check the oil, etc. He's really sweet and patient. Wendy1234
03-30-2011, 08:23 PM
Yes, this thread is exactly about that. Since this obviously is a big purchase, I want to make sure about what to pay for it. I like to do research and get opinions. The average public would think this is foolish to spend on a car, but since this is an automobile site, I thought that this would help and it has. My friend was offering a certain amount and I just wanted to know if that was fair. This is a lambo forum for anyone to ask questions and this was my question. If it gives you a headache, then just ignore the post and go on to something that interests you.

Honestly, 164K still sounds a bit too high to me. If he's a good friend and can afford one new, why not drop the price for you a bit? Of course, it's your money and if you really are in love with the car and 164K is fine with you, then go for it.

I have driven this car plenty of times and can handle it fine. It's easy. Obviously you can't go that fast as you would on a track, but it sure is fun to drive. I do know how to it works, I just don't know how to check the oil. He's explaining things to me as far as the gauges and that's a no brainer to understand. I've been driving for over 30 years, have never gotten a speeding ticket or any ticket for that matter and have never been in an accident. Wendy

Internet forums can be helpful but the longtime residents are known to 'flame' newbies. There is alot of BS on any message forums and you are coming across very inexperienced, talking about buying a very rare and special car and learning about checking tire pressure and oil and so on. That said welcome to the 4 and you cant really go wrong with a white SL at the right price. Take if for a PPI to an authorized dealer and make sure everything is right with the car. Hope to see it on here soon.

Let's face it, the majority of buyers of cars like this probably know less than she does about the car. They just want it for the status and the looks. At least coming on here and posting shows that she's an enthusiast. Plus, women are usually more careful drivers than us guys.

Thanks JM, that was very nice of you to say. No, I don't want it for the status. I love the 2008 SL. If I won the lottery, I still would not even purchase a Merci, I'm hooked on the SL. I think the Merci's look is nice but it's a bit to "clean" looking for me. I haven't seen the Aventador though; it looks beautiful. I LOVE to drive. I equate driving the SL like the best ride in an amusement park, only that you have total control. I get such an adrenaine rush from hearing the sound of the car when it starts up and opening up the throttle! Just love that special sound the SL makes. I enjoy the sound as much as I enjoy the driving! If I had a ton of money, I would buy a McLaren F1-- they're super cool

Wendy, first off good luck if you did purchase it and here is my opinion...

I spent almost a year looking for my car, Spent a lot of money flying to different areas around the country (MO, IA, MS and Drives to places on the East coast) If youre considering spending 165k and this car is the one you want, color you want, you know the complete history of the car, and know how the guy who had it before you treated it. AND he is showing you all about the car, going to be there after the sale for questions specific to this car.

screw it pay the extra 5k. If you decide on a car outside of your driving distance, $1000+ MINIMUM each time you go out to see one. you may get there and say nah i dont like the color in person, the seats have more wear than you thought, there are more chips in the paint than your comfortable with, the PPI comes back with an issue.... you get the idea.

I spent 7k more on my car because i wanted what i wanted, didnt matter that if i waited longer that i "may" find a cheaper one. fact is the car i wanted was one of 46, the one you want is one of 10 (9 remaining). Its spring and if you want it just buy it. worry about the 5k when you need to.

But Opinions are like orgasms, Everyone has them but most only care about their own..... So take my words however you like, its easier to spend other peoples money.
