What is OBDII Port Flashing?

OBDII: "On-Board Diagnostics - TWO" refers to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standardized port required for all passenger vehicles sold in the US after January 1st, 1996. The purpose of the OBD port is to aid auto manufacturers and factory service technicians in reading and reporting the vehicles self-diagnostic programing. As OBDII communication became more sophisticated it was not only used for retrieving information and identifying Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DCT's), it was also used to write software updates to the ECU.

As aftermarket tuners became more familiar with the capabilities of OBDII, direct port flashing of performance software to the ECU was born. In most cases with software based products, security features are enabled by the manufacturer in order to keep out 3rd party developers from altering the factory programing. Until now, bypassing the security built into the Lamborghini Huracan's dual MED17 ECU's meant removing the ECU's to be "bench flashed" at our facility. Today we are announcing that removal of the ECU's is no longer necessary as we can safely and securely upload our performance calibrations through the OBDII port in a similar manner as at the factory or in the dealership.

Process: Purchase your HEX Tuning OBDII Flash Cable directly from VF Engineering (or any of our Authorized Dealers/Service Centers), download the HEX Tuning Program Application to your PC, connect the USB Cable to the vehicle's OBDII port, and follow a series of simple prompts to upload the performance software to the ECU; All in the comfort of your own driveway, garage, or local workshop.

The entire process is DIY (Do It Yourself) friendly, takes less than an hour, and is completely reversible using the same process as described above.

Please Note: In the event that a particular ECU Identification Code or software revision is not available in our current database, it may be necessary for VF Engineering to work remotely to read out your ECUs, or the ECUs may need to be removed and sent to VF Engineering for reading. For new ECU versions not currently available, VF Engineering will provide a full refund or cover the cost of overnight shipping in both directions in order to alleviate any extra costs to the customer, and to provide a rapid turn around time.
