    Default Shipping container houses?

I always thought these where pretty cool and always wanted to build one. not quite like in this video but something a little different, cooler, but I don't know where to start. They're pretty cheap and really strong compared with the traditional structures plus you can build it pretty much anyway you want it. Not bad for a possible first house.

Has anyone else looked into building them?

Yes, and I have mixed feelings on them -

For one they are not the "green" solution - it takes way more energy to modify them than it does to recycle them. Also, who knows what was shipped in them.

My biggest issue is the short ceiling height you get stuck with. Minimum ceilings should be 9' in my opinion. The width is also a concern, the only way to open it up would require such modification it hardly seems worth it...

On the other hand they look cool as hell. I suppose if used sparingly in construction and maybe only as a part of the house it could be very cool. Or just as a pool house, or small summer cottage on a beach/lake.

Cool concept... I recently started working for a modular structure manufacturing company that specializes in making modular buildings from the ground up with far more customization. Granted the structures are not ideal as a permanent dwelling but I wouldn't complain if I had to spend a few months in one for off site work purposes.

I like them. I'm looking at the specifics and the price is quite agreeable.

    Go big or go home...

And why try to make it look like something it's not? Embrace the container, don't try to make it look like a log cabin!

I don't really like the log cabin one in the video. Its a neat idea but I would need to see more examples
