Default Travelling to California. any recommendations?

    Hi mates,

my brother, a friend, and myself will be staying in california for a couple of days in august and september.
Our short trip starts in San Diego (august 20th), and ends in Las Vegas (return flight: September 4th).
The following locations are on our visiting schedule:

    San Diego
    La Jolla
    Carlsbad
    Laguna Beach
    Long Beach
    Santa Monica
    Hollywood
    Las Vegas.

All we have so far is a flight and sort of a list with hotels. Namely, we intend to stay at Andaz or W Hotel (SD & Hollywood), and the Viceroy (Santa Monica).

Since we are not at all familiar with the area, we wonder if you could recommend us any good places to go.

What we are currently looking for are good places to eat, nice hotels (especially in las vegas) as well as good bars and clubs. Generally speaking, the places to be.

Furthermore we are very interested in cars and architecture.

Thank you very much in advance!

    Regards from Switzerland.

i think you forgot Santa Barbara ! It's a very very beautiful town and you must see it !

San Diego OK, La Jolla perfect, Carlsbad don't know, Laguna OK, SM OK, Hollywood OK, LV don't know but OK.

During my journey, we rented a car and drive from SF to San Diego in 3 weeks

Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz should def. be on your list. If you like beaches, check out Hermosa, and Venice

La Jolla is awesome - spend lots of time there. Newport Coast has some nice restaurants if you're in the area. And yes, Venice beach will give you a look into a very interesting area filled with even more interesting people.

    Have fun!

I think you should stop by the Ritz Carlton at Palo Verde as well. Pretty seaside view!

When you are in Vegas, maybe you want to go to hoover dam or grand canyon. get a car because taxi adds us when in vegas. you don't want to walk around in hot summer.

I was just in LA/Santa Monica last month and had a great time. There are some fun bars/restaurants right off the beach. And yes, Venice is a great place to people watch. Lexus Magazine has a good article about road tripping southern California and they recommend some restaurants such as Orange Hill in Laguna - which according to my cousin who lives there is very good and has nice views. Have fun on your trip.

    To clarify...

Order a number 1. Animal style with drink of your choice.

If they ask if you want animal style on fries I suggest you say no.

There are many threads on here about what to do specifically in the Los Angeles area.

Enjoy and have a safe trip.

Santa Cruz is pretty far outta the way for the list of places they've got going. If you do end up making it up this direction though, I grew up there and I'd be more than willing to help cause some trouble
