Wink Decanters for Ones Fine Wine.

I have recently broadened my fine wine and spirits collection. Now just like the many people who are lucky enough to have rare collections of fine wine and spirits, I am looking to start collecting unusual decanters and carafes to compliment my alcohol collection.

Obviously companies like Riedel make fine decanters for wine. RIEDEL GLAS AUSTRIA - THE WINE GLASS COMPANY - Decanters - Slider But I have struggled to find any other premium companies that make fine unusual decanters, to store or serve your liquor.

I did manage to find a new hip fine spirit decanter company called Hutchcombe Creations that have made some cool decanters. See their website at www.hutchcombecreations.com

I would like to all you budding connoisseurs thoughts about the decanters I have shown and any other that you guys might have that are fine collector worthy.

    Many Thanks.

Ironically, I went on a wine tour last month in the Chateauneuf du Pape and the Rhone in France, and our guide told me that the French typically dont use decanters. I was surprised! She said they typically just let the wine breathe in the bottle for a few hours instead, and keeping it with the dusty old bottle was part of the process for them.

Sorry, no real input on the decanter though, just thought it was interesting and related.

Thanks for replying. There is certainly two schools of thought as to whether decanting makes a difference. However, I feel a decanter adds so much to the presentation of a fine wine and/or fine spirit during serving that it is certianly worth including. Certainly adds to the occasion and atmosphere, which is part of the culinary experience after all. What did you think of the decanters presented. Especially the one from Hutchcombe Creations. Cool Right?

Id say check out Ebay. search for crystal decanters you'll find a wide variety of nice pieces both vintage and newer. I think it's better to have a rarer piece. Good luck

I meant to add a bit more in my reply, I must've gotten distracted halfway through typing.

I, too, thing that decanters can really add to the presentation of wine, and it can make a dinner table look very elegant. It also can take the label out of the discussion so that people just enjoy a good wine, and don't need to focus on regions, variety, labels/prices, etc.

Wine Stuff carries most of the current major brands, such as Riedel, Ravenscroft: Decanters | Winestuff

Another vintage brand to consider would be Waterford and Galway - the irish crystal companies make some nice ones also.
