Default Paso Robles Winery... recommendations for the wine tasting

I've been invited to a friend house in San Luis Obispo and we plan on stopping by Paso Robles along the way. Any recommendations on like 3 wineries to hit?

I did a search and only "CLS" recommended a few but that was in 2009.

I'll use his recommendations as a start. I was also watching a segment on TV of going to some of the tasting places in downtown Paso Rolbes which would make it easier to sample a wide range of wines w/o having to travel all over the place (46W has dozens of places!) Perhaps starting at the clock-tower first?

    TIA for any recommendations.

    Hey,

I live in Paso Robles I'll list some winerys for you:

    1) J. Lohr
    2) Castoro Cellars
    3) Meridian
    4) Wild Horse (local favorite in Templeton just south of Paso)
    5) Eberle
    6) York Mountain (pretty drive off the beaten path)
    7) Tobin James (a must!)
    8) Carmody-McKnight
    9) Justin Winery
    10) Midlife Crisis Winery (for the fun of it!)
    11) Peachy Canyon
    12) Dark Star

My personal top 5 would be
    1) Justin
    2) Robert Hall
    3) Castoro Cellars
    4) Opollo
    5) Tobin James

If you want a nice place downtown to do some tasting there all with in walking distance I would recommend Meritage Lounge, Vinoteca Wine Bar, and Clay House Wines. All these places are down town between 11th and 14th St. there mostly all next door and have good varieties.

I noticed you mentioned the clock tower right across the street is a new wine shop but I haven't been there.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Thanks so much. I listed from CLS's thread:

    Tablas Creek
    Justin Vinyard
    Brian Benson
    Gray Wolf
    Peachy Canyon

J.Lohr is one of the very first establishments I heard about in the tiny town of Paso Robles, back in the late 80's - I nearly forgot about them.
And when our "then" CFO of Metaphor Computers left, he went to run a vinyard in Paso Robles too (at that time, only a vinyard, no wines.) Have you ever heard of Marty Meeker???

I'll keep this bookmarked for the coming weekend.

allied107, is Turley in and of itself a worthwhile visit? It's a 30 minute drive further south from PR.

Agree that Justin is a must visit if you're in the area.........

Turley is in Templeton, which from Paso is about 10 mins from San Luis Obispo it's 30 mins North. I personally haven't been there but it might be something to check out.
