Default Thinking about this Wine Rack

I'm thinking about building this simple wine rack. Any thoughts??

We don't keep too much wine around, so this would be perfect.

That is a good looking rack. I like the style of it. It would be good fit if you want to just keep a few bottles around, but if you want to store wine and age it at all it should really be in a temp and light controlled area (ideally humidity controlled as well).

But with that said it seems from what you said this would be an awesome fit!

What wood are you thinking about using?

That one is built with Poplar. So i may just go that same route!! The wife is wanting to stain it a little darker so it will match our table better though.

Heading to Lowe's in a few to pick up the supplies!!

If you want it a bit darker, I would consider a nice cherry or walnut and then just use a nice low shine lacquer. Using a wood like those will give it a higher end look than a stain would and have a more interesting grain to it. Will be a bit more expensive but not much because you shouldn't need many board feet.

Won't be as dark in the beginning, but as it ages (doesn't take too long you will notice it in a couple months) it will get darker. If it is in a sunny room then this process will happen even faster!

Keep us posted would love to see how it turns out!

Going to go with plain screw technique or something more fancy like dowels, or even fancier dove tailing ?

    Just going plain screw route!!

I'm not quite talented enough to start fancying it up with dove tailing!!

Should have some pics of the progress tomorrow!! Gotta borrow a saw from my Dad!!
