Epic bottle! 1989 Château Sociando-Mallet, Haut-Médoc
Reaching deep into the cellar...

1989 Château Sociando-Mallet
Country: France
Region: Bordeaux
SubRegion: Médoc
Appellation: Haut-Médoc
Price: roughly $85-100 today
This is a big, old wine, so let it breath for about an hour (traveling, so couldn't decant). The cork was not friendly (saturated), as you can see below, and started to break apart as I carefully pulled... but got it all out. Was worried it went bad, but the wine held up nicely.
Amazing dark purple/ruby color, sweet berry and cedar nose, and black cherry and plum on the palate. Smooth tanins, w/ a long finish. This wine blossomed as we worked thru the bottle. Beautiful, but I think it could have cellared longer.
What a crusty bottle - these are some of my better wine pics, so hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed this bottle!
