Default Masi Sergio Alighieri Valpolicella - 2001... a tour, and a memory revisited tonight

Masi Serego Alighieri Valpolicella - 2001

"Valpolicella" translation = "valley of many cellars"

Alighieri? Yes, Dante... For over 650 years the Serego Alighieri estate has been the historic reference point for Verona's winemaking and agricultural traditions... It was in 1353 that Pietro, son of the poet Dante Alighieri, purchased this land and a villa in the hills of Valpolicella. The estate is still the property of the descendants of the author of the Divine Comedy.

The 650 year anniversary Reserva Valpolicella... a light, nicely ballanced red, dry w/ a hint of smoke, aged in cherry wood (not oak) barrels... grapes are Corvina, Rondanella, and Molinara.

MissiG and I were guests and the Masi estate in Valpolicella (near Venice) in 2007, where this wine is made (see pics below). Tonight we finished off dinner w/ a bottle from 2001. We also just served this wine at our wedding. Needless to say, it is special.

    Pics from our visit...

    And the vineyards...

It is within 1 hr of the Ferrari factory in Modena (hint hint), and you can actually stay there!

    Here's the website...

Look under the Foresteria section (for the guest "apartments")... the rooms are awesome.

Ha! Contact the winery (link above) and ask for Veronica Maestri - she's the PR manager... and never gets hit on.

Yes, the Loser 4 Pander thread.

Todd, your presence on the Christmas card list is under review.
