Default TN: 2006 McPrice Myers Viognier Larner Vineyard

Well, it would appear I am in the minority with this wine...on the nose, I get fresh spring water, detergent (see a 'clean' theme running here?), sweet pears and kiwi fruit. Nice mouthfeel, if a bit on the rich side. The palate brings very sweet, almost Sauternes-like syrupy sweetness (without the complexity of Sauternes, though) of baked pears and honey, but some floral components exist as well, and quite a healthy dose of rubbing alcohol, which is a big turnoff for me. The finish turns astringent, and with the very high acidity throughout the flavor profile, this viognier just doesn't hit it for me at all. Will try more tomorrow - the other half of the bottle. I think this wine has potential, but needs time, as the acidity is very, very strong, giving it the opportunity to cellar a while.

How did you get educated on describing the different flavors you experience? I don't think about any of this when I drink wine. What does it take to get to that level? Seriously.

It's not really educated, I've just got a sensitive palate and nose, I guess. I can pick out someone's perfume in a crowd of people, can smell when it is about to rain, stuff like that. I just write down what I taste or smell, and that's part of the amazing thing about wine, that is has all these flavors and scents.
