    Default wine dinner tonight

i dont usually do any write about the wine dinner that i go to. however, Dilan ask me to post what i did tonight and here it goes.

I started on research red wine about 5-6 years ago. drinking red wine has opened my eyes into a different horizon. tonight surely was one of those night which i will remember for the rest of my life. all the wine are paired with very thoughtfully prepared chiense food.

    1. course - bake baby pork. small pig baked and roast on open flame to golden brown until skin turn crispy but still retain a small amount of oil. then you dip the pork into a semi sweet sauce and add on white sugar on the mear to take away the oil

    2. austrilia crab - female crab only since right now the season for them to produce eggs within them. crab is being boiled with seasoning and then chilled in freezer so the moisture and taste of the seasoning is seal in the meat itself

    3. lobster soup - use lobster and abalone and other expensive chinese herb make up the stocking which is very pure but very flavorful.

    4. lobster meat and noodle. lobster cook two ways. 1 fry with some spice and another way is steam with some ginger and sauce. serve on top of noodle

    5. special chicken with seasoning but melt in your mouth.

5.5 - uni with egg and then mix the two together and drink it like a soup.

    6. vegatable

    7. desert course.

okay here is the wine in sequence. i dont want to go into each wine too much as each of them has their own story. if you like wine then you should know the name.

    starter - 1985 charles heidsieck

    1. 1999 cheval blanc
    2. 1997 bryant family
    3. 1997 abreu
    4. 1997 harlan
    5. 2003 screaming eagle
    6. 2005 scarecrow
    7. sloan
    8. 1994 mouton

    other wine
    1988 charles kurg napa
    gaja
    robert mondavi private reserve magunm
there are a few other wines there too but since they are easy to acquire items therefore i am not going to talk about it. following is some pics from tonight. i will give you guys my opinion as to what is wine of the night. its getting late and i am still buzz from the dinner enjoy the pics. sorry for the typo but alchol and not enough sleep time really not a good mix.

I'm curious what the going rate of that wine dinner was...

Those wines are $$$$, especially the 1997 Harlan and 2003 Screaming Eagle. Both excellent wines btw as I am sure you know...

okay guys and gals, i am back. tonight is sake night. I know what you guys are thinking... but asian is always drunk anyways i got to finish this write up before i forget.

    okay here it goes.
all the wine we had were open 1.5 hour prior to first taste. so you figure the dinner took about 2 hours therefore the wine that served at last course got a lot more air time compare to the wine at first course.

let me compare the a few top wine first.
    bryant family
    screaming eagle
    harlan
    scarecrow
    motuon
    cheval blanc

please also note that we are blending two first gru with some super cali cab. therefore in comparing structure of the wine is already unfair since cali cab always have less of structure due to soil and weather condition in comparing to french wine.

when i first taste the bryant family (which i have a few bottle myself too). its got all the good basica of super cali cab wine. i was thinking probably the ony thing can top this is the screaming eagle. its kind of hard to start a wine dinner with bryant family as first course. for people that knows wine, you gonna be thinking what else can top a BF. in coompare the harlan and BF. the nose of the harlan has much more floral flavor and complexity. you can feel the power of harlan by simply put your nose to it, both wine was still young at the time. i think give the wine 5-7 more years they will be much better to drink. when i sip the harlan, the fiish simply kept on coming and coming. for a minute i thought what else can top this...... !!!! then they serve teh screan eagle (SE). the nose is not as strong and clear as the harlan but the structure of the wine is ammmmmmmmmmmmmmazing... i mean, they all are top dollar wine but i never thought SE can blow away harlan and BF in terms of structure and finish. the nose i was still into harlan at the time. i was going nuts already with all these fancy cali cab. then i took in the mouton. mouton is like a woman or a vintage ferrari. not everyone will apprciate a 1960s ferrair for 20 million. some might never get it as to why people would buy a 20 milion dollar 50 year old ferrari which is hard to start and hard to stop. i think you guys are my drift.

mouton is always wonderful but comparing to super cali cab which focus on flavors. it will take that special someone to appreciated. after the mouton i had some chebal blanc which is also a wonderful wine.

then they finally serve the scarecrow.
for me and for the pirce. i think this should be the wine of the night. the price on it should be aorund couple hundred a bottle and this wine really stand strong among all the major player on the market. i was impressed about the nose, structure and finish of the wine, but please do note that dont let this wine breath for more than 4 hours. after 4 hours the wine is still good, but please do note that i still got BF, SE and mouton by my side. the wine is best to drink at its 2nd hour.

the wine of the night that everyone choosed was the the SE, but i choosed the Screacrow base on value. most of the wine are more than 1000 a bottle. the only thing that are cheap on the table that night and stand its ground was the sacrecrow.

however, here are my humble 2cent. i wil post more stuffs on other things later on. things like sake and other stuffs. please feel free to ask questions

    enjoy life and drink up.
