Looking for a recommendation on a Cabernet..
A friend's birthday is coming up and I remember him saying he's likes Cabernets. I plan to get something in a couple weeks.
Suggestions would be great.
Thanks for the help!!

Don't really have a budget. We're close friends. As long as it's worth it, I'm willing to pay for it.

Since you say Cab I expect you're looking at California and not French wines? For drinking in the short term or the long term? Does he / she have a cellar?
Don't know if you can still find it but earlier this year when someone was asking I recommended the 2005 Columbia Crest Reserve: $30 / per bottle, 95 points from the wine spectator. Blows away many much higher priced Cabs.
I cracked a Cab called "Educated Guess "from Wimbledon Wine Company last night. I bought a case of this stuff earlier this year at around $18 per. This one is a bit of an enigma. Initial show is a little overly tannic but big cherry fruits, dark chocolates and the more common Cab pepper, tobacco type stuff all eventually show up after a couple of hours. I Vacuvinned (there's a verb for you!) it and it is sitting in the small wine fridge at the moment, the second day is often the tell on these wines as to cellaring potential but I suspect the verdict will be very positive. It can certainly be drunk now with perhaps a half hour or hour in the decanter.
Other than that find a wine store with a good reputation and ask what they recommend. Stags Leap, the Ridge Monte Bello, Silver Oak, Hess, Beringer, Diamond Creek, Franciscan, Hendry, Jordan, Silverado, St. Francis, Cornerstone and others I'm not thinking of at the moment have all spent time in my cellar and lived up to their reputations, (some more than others) and should be appreciated by any cab drinker.Loves wine, women and song

Damn, this is such an open-ended question. There are literally hundreds of cabs that you'd want to consider, or could be recommended by us here without hesitation. A price range (or at least a cap on what you're willing to pay) along with whether this is for immediate consumption or possible long-term storage will help to narrow down the choices greatly.
Money no object?? A '97 Screaming Eagle or Harlan Estate would make any wine aficionado go "holy schnikes!!" if they were gifted one.
Not interested in spending several Gs on one bottle, but still want something that would make any wine aficionado go "whoa"? Try and locate a bottle of Scarecrow.
Besides the choices mentioned by Bacchus & MTK, some others to consider are Lewis Cellars, Ghost Block, Philip Togni, Dunn, Lokoya and Heitz.
Let us know what you end up getting your friend. When I'm not here, I'm slinging IT infrastructure or gone golfing

if you father is from there, it's almost an insult that you haven't tried it

Rolando (founder of Mi Sueno) is also from Llano, this wine was/is an homage to that land!!!!!
open it, let it sit in the bottle (opened) for 15 minutes and you'll the genius of winemaker Rolando Herrera !!!
