    Default Thanksgiving Day Wines?

So Thanksgiving Day is very near and I was wondering what wine do the L4P’s bring to the table? I have always enjoyed a good Gewurztraminer or Riesling on my turkey day but I was hoping for some advice from you guys and gals here.

So which vineyards and which white or red does everyone have on Turkey Day?

I was hoping for some good ideas for me so I can bring something really nice to my Aunt's table for dinner. It is her first family Thanksgiving at her house and I would like it to be special.

    Thanks,
    Jason

I know its not "NORMAL", but on Turkey day, and Christmas, I love a bottle of the bizzare geyser Peak Sparkling Shiraz. Love it with DUCK quack quack

    "Vintage: 1998

    Appellation: Sonoma County

    Grape Varietal: Shiraz

    Storage/Type: French and American Oak

    Maturation Time: 15 Months

Production Comments: The 1997 Sparkling Shiraz is made from reserve quality lots of hillside Sonoma County fruit. The blend was barrel aged for 15 months in three and four year-old oak to gain maturation effect rather than for oak character. The blend was then put down on tirage to undergo a secondary fermentation. A small amount of sugar and yeast are added to the wine prior to bottling. The subsequent fermentation in the bottle produces the natural carbon dioxide bubble in the wine. The wine was then left on its yeast lees for 3 years. During this time, the carbon dioxide in the wine becomes progressively integrated and has the effect of producing the tiny bubbles and fine bead seen in the glass. The lees contact also adds to the creamy texture on the palate and retention of the mousse. During the disgorging process, the yeast lees are riddled down to the cap and the neck of the bottle is frozen. When the cap is removed, the “yeast plug” is forced out by the built-up pressure in the bottle. A small dose of sweet liquor is added; the bottle is corked, wired, and packaged. All of this is done in the bottle, true to the Methode Champenoise process of making premium white sparkling wine, except it is red.

Bottling Information & Analysis: Bottling Date: 06/99

    Release Date: 06/02

    Cases Produced: 280

    Alcohol 13.7%

    pH 3.62

    Acid 0.63

    R.S. 1.3

Wine Description: The color is deep red which shows beautifully in the mousse or foam on the surface of the wine. Raspberry and blackberry fruits fill the nose with elements of pepper, spice and vanilla, adding to the complexity. The palate opens with an explosion of bubbles. Rich fruit flavors are then followed by a wonderfully creamy texture of soft, round tannins and a long, long finish. Traditionally, sparkling reds are served during the holiday season with roast turkey and cranberry sauce. They are also an ideal accompaniment to game, such as, pheasant, squab and venison and also work well with richly flavored mature cheddar and blue cheeses. They are most often used in Australia, however, as an aperitif. Have fun! "

Oh and thanks Brian, great choice, but not exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks MTK! I will check these out as well. Man I am going to be testing a lot of wine before Thanksgiving even gets here.
