Default Car rental in San Fran?

So, my wife and I are coming to San Fran at the beginning of April for a week. We're staying with friends up near Lafayette Square (up near Van Ness and California St.) Need to have a car not for the whole week to go up to Sonoma and down to Carmel. Knowing parking in the city is difficult, what's your advice?

    Thanks in advance.

you can rent a car day by day from SF locations or look into zip cars / city share. the latter choice has lots of locations but i think you prepaid a member fee. that area u r staying at is not great for parking. neighborhood is a bit shady. so probly nothing too fancy if u want to keep overnight.

i believe that there is a rental car place near where you are staying. you can just rent for the day or so to meet your needs.

worse case, there are some rental car places near union square that could probably come and pick you up.

Is the FJ still around? Sh$t, I'd be too afraid what MTK or RAW would do to me if something happened.

there are a ton of rental car places throughout the city - *and* they're significantly cheaper (no airport taxes.)

you do not want a car in SF w/o a garage - it's a nightmare, particularly the area you're staying.

just rent a car in town (take a cab to get it) when you need it and your life will be easy.

Thanks Chuck. So, you'd just take a cab from the airport into the city? It's been 10 years since I was in Cali. Flew in and out of San Jose and it was for business.
