I wouldn't move to Mission Hills with a car that has ANY mods on it. Be prepared to have something stolen every week if thats the case. Mission Hills is in the San Fernando Valley so rent is nowhere near what you would find in Hollywood and/or surrounding areas. It's much, much lower. BTW, Mission Hills is a predominately lower income neighborhood...

If you are planning on partying, my recommendation would be the Hollywood Hills, W. Hollywood, Brentwood, Mid-Wilshire, Santa Monica and any other city in the general area. Downtown LA is becoming a hot spot for hipsters along with the Silverlake/ Echo Park areas. The area around Little Tokyo has some amazing new lofts/apts up for lease for pretty decent prices. The clubs are generally closer to Hollywood IE Sunset area and Hollywood Blvd.

If your looking to be closer to the beach, Santa Monica is the way to go. If you don't mind a 15-30 drive to the Hollywood area, Malibu is top notch as well.

I lived in Mission Hills for a little while and fell in love with the city. Mission Hills is literally five minute cab ride to the airport, five minute ride to downtown, ten or fifteen minutes to Ocean Beach/Pacific Beach/ and the Cliffs.

Rent is going to be pricey, as it is for the rest of the California coast. I was staying in a small 500 sq ft. guest house and was paying out the nose but it is all relative considering the amenities listed above and the beautiful view.

In general the people in SD seem down to earth. I'm a southern kid from Arkansas and it wasn't too big of a change even for me.

Anyway, best of luck with relocating and hope to hear of stories to come.

I do realize everyone has their own stories and experiences but I lived in San Diego for a year and half driving with Arkansas plates and didn't experience a single problem.

I have noticed that Denverites mingle well with Californians. If you have the money to do so, you will like it here.
