subLV - good to see one in its natural environment!

Thinking about it, I might go for the Aerospace instead... same watch almost. Since my only flying is business class, and my only tramping is down my driveway to get the morning newspaper, maybe the BE is a bit over the top for my lifestyle.

to change the battery on a breitling emergency is no where near 600$, the battery is about 50 bucks max! the reason they charge you 600 is they are doing a full service on the watch which makes sense because its stated you should service your watch every 4-5 years. but this is a quartz breitling. there is no need to service it for that amount. a rolex daytona chronograph is 800 to service.

Well there is mentioned one case in Wiki ->

"Reuters reported that in January 2003, two British pilots, Squadron Leader Steve Brooks and Flight Lieutenant Hugh Quentin-Smith, crashed their helicopter in Antarctica and were rescued after activating their Breitling Emergency transmitter watches. The two pilots were in their lifeboat when a Chilean Otter aircraft found them after homing in on signals from their watches."

there was also a high baller in wall street that was captured by some pro's and they took him to some island and awaited a payment from his company. he activated the the emergency and couple of hours later he was rescued. the watch itself is great. i would say in about 10 years this watch is gonna be a heavy hitter in terms of investment. there is a big market for vintage breitlings and this one is the one.

to be honest with you. fs you pulled the pin out would you stay and wait for the costguard? or you would say hmmm 4k for this watch or 50k for the ticket. i think i would just throw the watch on the floor and leave the scene. but this only works for people who bought the watch pre-owned. if you bought it new then your in the books. best thing to do is break the watch in half and remove the movement and case back with serials of the watch, as long as the lithium battery is out then the signal will be lost.

WHA????? Break the watch in half? Either you can crack titanium with your bare hands or you carry watch tools with you all the time, either way I'm scared...

well you wont be able to do it with your hands but, looks whats around you maybe youll find something its not like they come in 10 minutes, it takes time. like for example take a decent size rock smash the crystal because thats the only place that doesnt have titanium. after you crack the face you'll be in the middle of the movement already. you will just have to disconnect the lithium battery from the transmitter which is right there. take it home and remove the caseback and serials and thats all. its been done before.

Why do I get the feeling you're just making all this crap up as you go?

well its very simple. how can they find you location if the battery that operates the signal is not connected. its like with iphone when you loose it. when you have that app that finds your iphone and shows where it is all you have to do is just turn the phone off and remove simcard and signal wont be there. as far as getting to the signal im pretty sure you can find images on a google search that show the case of the breitling emergency and you will see that the only thing that covers the top of a titanium case is a sapphire crystal with a digital display.
