Sub Vs Panerai
I recently graduated college and am on my way to receiving my first "Real" watch. I have been tirelessly debating between a Submariner and Panerai 112 or 111. While both are versatile I do think the Sub is a little more versatile, but I also hate to be the new guy at work "flaunting" a Rolex. I feel less will know what a Panerai is and I do like the mystery behind it. The IWC Pilot Chrono was also in the mix, but I think that's fallen out of the race. I also have not tried a Pam on yet, so putting it on my wrist could instantly sway my decision in one direction or the other. What would you guys suggest as a perfect "starter" watch, I realize opinions will vary and it is ultimately my decision, but I would not mind some influence. Thanks

I assume you are purchasing new from an AD, there is about $1500.00 difference between the PAM111 and SUB-C (not including state taxes).
After costs are considered it depends what you want, personally I am a self confessed Submariner fan as I feel they suit pretty much all occasions and is a timeless design.
But do understand that its highly likely that it wont be your last foray into purchasing a watch and ultimately it doesn't matter because in the end like most of us you will end up with both anyway sooner or later.

It will be a gift and I KNOW I'll be buying more watches in the future.. I would just like to keep off the temptation of that purchase for as long as possible. Is there any harm in buying an older sub? Perhaps T series or forward? I'm most probably going to be given the cash and make the purchase on my own. Buying both is not an option no matter how much I am given, rather use the additional money as an additional financial "cushion"

If your looking to buy a pre-owned Sub then check out Rolex Forums - Rolex Watch Forum or hit up FEAR. Any serial older than 5 years you will want to make sure its had a service so you have one less thing to pay/worry about.

Pam 312/351/359
I don't think a Panerai 111 or 112 would keep me content for very long. The above 3 would do a better job imo

Love my 111 but my sub gets way more wrist time.
It's just an easy going watch to dress up or down.2013 GT-R Premium White|Black|Carbon
