Aside from the Rolex name imo the sub is the more understated watch. I know to watch what Tourneau throws at you! I knew from my own research there new collection was designed by an old designer of Panerai! Thanks though! I'm literally running myself in circles with this decision
For what it is worth I have only gotten a small (literally) handful of comments on my Sub in over 5-6 years. When I had my PAM I got comments/complements quite frequently, which was actually more uncomfortable if someone started asking pointed questions. I could really care either way, but much prefer no comments, unless from a WIS. I get the most comments on my G-Shocks, go figure! LOL.
When I first had my Panerai is very under radar from recognition standpoint, this has greatly changed over the last 3 years in particular. Because of its wrist presence the Panerai will be notice 10x more than the Sub. To many watches look like/copy/fake the Sub for it to be recognized the way you might think it will be. Again, both great brands, hard to go wrong.
One last thing to consider. The Rolex has a divers bezel, you have no idea how much this saves the watch from noticeable scratches/dings vs the Panerai. I say this from experience, for an everyday wear for me personally a Panerai would not even be a consideration. Great watch if you are rotating between a few, but not as the only one IMHO.

i went through this a decade ago between a sub and 111. to make the long story short, i went with the 111. i was happy with that decision and wore it all the time. it is not that big once you get used to it. i have min scratches after years of daily wear. i have gotten more comments about that watch than anything else i have subsequently purchased. but as many said, years later i purchased the sub and GMT, which all great watches. but i don't think any watches have given me that same excitement as the 111 when i was younger.

I too work at a bulge bracket on the street. Pam's are not as common as you would thibk. Rolexs are a dime a dozen on the associate level and above. As an analyst you'll get sh!t for wearing one. They call it "new banker money"

As long as you don't mind the extra hazing, go for it! Awesome watch

The Rolex will get noticed... The Panerai will get respected!!

Besides, you can chance Panerai straps every hour if you choose, quite easily, which makes the watch a million times more versatile!

I'd personally go with the rolex. Its the perfect go-to watch and daily beater that you can do everything in. And it retains its value fairly well.

My solution was to get additional dress shirts made with a larger left cuff, I was already doing a longer right sleeve/cuff. Anyway, time to step-up your clothing game especially if you're rocking a pricy watch.
