Default Submariner keeps time but doesn't automatically wind

My sub keeps time very well when I manually wind it. After the power reserve runs out (2 days), the watch stops even when I wear it daily. The auto winding doesn't work anymore.

Any one knows what needs to be replaced?

The last service date is unknown but it's been at least 3 years. I will take it into a service center. Anyone recommend one in San Francisco bay area? Do I need a full service since the watch is keeping time well? Is this an adjustment or parts replacement only?

    Thanks!

To hard to tell, could be a spring or the rotor itself. Take it to an RSC and have it looked at by a professional.

Def sounds like a rotor since that is what actually does the winding in an automatic watch. Does it sound like something loose banging around? Could be a very quick and easy fix, unless they do a complete service. The fact that it winds manually and keeps time that way makes me think that the rotor has loosened.

Rolex Service Center in SF gets very good reviews amongst Rolex aficionados.

I sent my SD for a service at Dallas RSC. I think the basic rebuild charge was $550. Came back like a new watch. DOOO ITTT!

Interesting. Can you hear the rotor spin?

thanks for all the replies! i can't hear the rotor spinning when i move the watch around. if i move it enough, the second hand does move.

seems like the rotor is the problem, not spinning freely enough. i will get it looked at. hope it's not a full service since i just got it 2 months ago (used, no warranty).

I don't remember any clicks, you just hear it spin. Maybe it's just jambed. Like a small screw fell out and is causing the rotor to stick.

I knew you would say this... But you can hear it turning, and winding.
