Depends if you want a base or marina, steel or ti, painted or sandwich dial. I'd personally go with a manual wind as that's the "core" of what Panerai is all about (and are much easier to sell later if you want to go in a different direction)
Steel/painted dial - 000 (base ) 005(marina)
Steel/sandwich dial - 112 (base) 111(marina)
Ti/sandwich dial - 176 (base) 177(marina)

Do the 112 the sanwich face makes it not look plain in my eyes and you will want one at some point no matter how many Pams you own. The 176 is a good start to and may be my next one since I do not own a Ti Pam yet!
