Can you give us some more info on that. Most of these guys dont need the schooling but I do. I didnt even know they make other things. Does it have a name?

That thing is called a curveometer or something like that. its used to measure nautical miles on scale maps while out on the ocean. the little rolling circle at the end of the device rolls along the map and tells you how far from one point to the next.
Sorry, would like to edit and say that Panerai as a company working for the Italian Navy seals made many things other than watches like depth gauges, compasses, scopes, pretty much anything that would need illumination. Panearai as a company was also split in two when purchased by the vendome group.
