Hong Kong's Million-Dollar Watches
Interesting video. In Asia, a watch is more of a status symbol than a time-piece. Some
advertisers use the watch you wear to assess your social standing.

The video is saying that it is more so the watch because when you are out walking about, people can't see what car or house you have but they can see what's on your wrist quite easily. Also, it emphasizes that in Asia, it is much more an important status symbol than most other countries.

^Which brings up a good point. Inasmuch as some consumers might not care what a sales person would think of them while sizing them up, walking around with a Patek Philippe (or my dream watch a Jaeger-LeCoutre Master Compressor) will certainly command a different kind of attention than a "pedestrian Seiko" amongst peers and the public - a bit Capt. Obvious I know lol.
I suppose I haven't had the nasty experience of sales clerks turning up their nose even at higher end establishments in various stores around the world, which has been pleasant so far.
The city I live in is funny - people that don't look like they have money actually have money. And the people that do look like they have money actually have a lot more money than you think lol.

I wish people knew more about watches around the US. I don't necessarily care about status but it would be nice if it meant something a bit more to others...
