These are the top 5 G-Shock choices for 2017 as assessed and adjudicated by the G-Shock expert website G-Central , an independent G-Shock specialist site who know more about G-Shocks, their features, their model numbers and their history than might be considered healthy, but who actually do a better job of creating awareness of the G-SHOCK brand than G-SHOCK themselves. Here then, in reverse order, are the top five.

#5: G-SHOCK: GWF1000-1 Frogman

The Casio G-Shock Frogman remains a firm favorite for hardcore G-Shock fans worldwide. Armed with Tough Solar it now also features Multi-Band 6 plus tide and moon phase graphs. The Frogman is encased in a full stainless steel body and is made in Japan which accounts for the higher price. The GWF1000 is said to be the best Frogman ever produced and also the toughest looking one. In terms of all-digital G-Shocks it is the big daddy and the limited edition models are highly coveted. As the only G-Shock with ISO 6425 certified water resistance to 200 meters and a dive time and surface interval measurement function, the Frogman is considered the best G-Shock for serious diving use.

#4: G-SHOCK: GWN1000B-1B Gulfmaster

Considered one of the most feature-rich G-Shock models complete with Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, Triple Sensor, and tide data. At 44.9 x 55.8 x 16.0 mm it is a large watch but said to be more comfortable to wear than other large models. The Gulfmaster line also comes in a variety of color schemes. As its name suggests, the Gulfmaster was designed for boaters or those spending time on the ocean.

#3: G-SHOCK: GWG1000 Mudmaster

The GWG-1000 Mudmaster was introduced in the fall of 2015. The Mudmaster is a an analog-digital upgrade of the popular Mudman model and is part of Casio’s push into higher-end analog G-Shock watches. The Mudmaster inherits the Rangeman’s guarded button structure and is resistant to mud and dust, and also adds resistance to extreme vibration for its analog movement. The Triple Sensor includes an altimeter, barometer, compass, and thermometer. It also has Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 radio wave timekeeping, and a sapphire crystal for extra scratch-resistance. At 59.5 × 56.1 × 18.0 mm it’s one of the largest G-Shock watches. The ideal watch for rescue workers and it with appeal for those in other physically demanding professions.

#2: G-SHOCK: GW9400-1 Rangeman

Hailed as the most popular watch in Casio’s Master of G signature G-Shock line of professional-use watches. With Triple Sensor (compass/thermometer/altimeter-barometer) and with extreme shock protection, it’s also reasonably priced. The Rangeman is designed to take mud and dust in its stride with its protected button structure and the sensors easily accessible with a single button. It is one of the most functional tactical watches available with features including sunrise/sunset data, low temperature resistance, 1000-hour stopwatch, 24-hour countdown timer, and 40 record memory for date/time, bearing, and atmospheric pressure/temperature readings. Armed with Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6 it can set the correct time practically anywhere in the world. A great choice for a serious all-around outdoor or survival watch, able to take more abuse than a watch with mechanical moving parts. If you could only have one G-Shock, the Rangeman would be the best choice.

#1: G-SHOCK: GWM5610-1

The original and still the best. This is a direct descendant of the first ever Casio G-Shock DW-5000C that began the G-Shock legend way back in 1983. With the same classic square shape as the original and with modern features such as Tough Solar power and Multi-Band 6 time syncing through radio wave reception, the 5600 series is a good choice for those who prefer a standard size G-Shock rather than the extra-large models. At 12.7 mm, the GWM5610-1 is one of the thinnest G-Shock watches. G-Shock creator Kikuo Ibe is most often seen wearing a 5600-series watch. The GWM5610-1 is an excellent choice for the first time G-Shock buyer and is highly regarded by longtime G-Shock fans. The classic, timeless styling of the original G-Shock combined with advanced features puts the GW-M5610-1 top of the pile.
