Thread: Thinking of hitting Mexico/Hawaii this spring break and summer

Looking to hit a Mexican cruise this spring break and go to Hawaii this summer.

I've been looking for all inclusive stuff via Kayak.com but haven't seen anything.. Maybe I'm just blind?

Do you guys recommend doing a Mexican cruise cause of the stuff going on? We'd be staying on the boat at night and just getting off two or 3 times to see the cities, eat food etc..

All info would help!

Hell yes. Im headed to Cancun in about 9 weeks. Staying a week. You are just fine in the resort areas, just dont venture off into the towns. We're doing an all Inclusive Secrets Silversands resort.

Did you go directly through the resort or did you go through a website/travel agent? Is that a cruise also or are you flying an going to a resort?

Blah, I still think it's safer that the stereotype. I'm looking at flying into cancun, taking a bus down to Playa del Carmen, and staying at a hostel for a week or so in January.

One thing is staying on a resort or a cruise.. But a hostile in Mexico? Your nuts!

Does anyone know if they check your luggage for bottles of liquor when heading on board carnival cruise ships?

I'm not sure if they check backpacks, but I know Liquor is fairly cheap down there. My brother used to bring back tequila all the time from business trips.

We've done lots of cruises and we're kind of cruised out. We are flying down and then transporting to the resort. We go directly through the resorts for our travel arrangements.

Where we're staying is only about 20 minutes from PLaya and we plan on spending alot of time there. when I say dont go into the towns, I mean dont head inland to mexico city or anything! LOL

The hostel has a facebook page. They post pictures of their visitors all the time, from all around the world, russia, south america, asia, europe, north america, africa, etc. It seems only Americans have the "OMG foreign people are scary" attitude about traveling off the beaten path.

Cool. The place I'm going to head to is less than 2 blocks from 5th Ave, their shopping district, and also less than 2 blocks from the beach. I can't wait.

Sweet. Yea we are a bit scared as a culture. I've spent time as a civilian in Iraq, Afghanistan and Mexico (and about 25 other less scary countries), so my fear factor is a bit lower than most. Ive been in the middle of towns in Iraq with 5 other white guys shopping at their little markets. We got some funny looks but nothing ever made us fearful. Most people only know what they see on TV.

They check. And I can practically guarantee you'll get caught. However, there isn't a penalty for it, other than losing the alcohol.
