Rio de Janeiro, Winter 2011
Plan on going with a few friends, only an idea for now.
We're thinking about staying in an apartment rather than a hotel to save some money
From what I read, New Years Eve is sick over there
Any words of advice or tips you guys can give?

I'm from Sao Paulo but I can help you find some good deals on apartments and transportation! I also have a great friend that help tourists to know the city. She can take you guys around, is the safe and better way to do it... since you dont know the good and bad areas!
From December to first week of March is definetely the best time to visit, because is our summer and yes the New Years eve is amazing.
To help you better. How many people? For how long are you pretend to stay? Whats is your budget?
You gonna love the city... is magic! The people, places, the food is amazing!
If you like cities like NY you can visit Sao Paulo too wich have great nightclubs and amazing restaurants and is only 45min away flying and the ticket is $100!
Other really good city to go is Florianopolis wich have the most beatiful woman from Brazil and beautiful beaches.
Welcome!

I remember in my younger days my soccer club team and I took a trip down to Sao Paulo for a few weeks to experience the game of soccer down there. We stayed at the major university in Sao Paulo. I Had the time of my life, its a place i will definitely go again and would recommend to anyone. The culture, people, food, just beautiful.

Rio sucks...too violent.
You can get shot in your face just for wearing nice shoes... and that is a fact.
Florianopolis is OK but boring out of season... Not dangerous like Rio and Sao Paulo.
Brazil is expensive to visit... I would go Asia instead... Oh wait, Asia is dangerous too...

Useless comment. Common sense is good for any place in the planet. Every place has your bad and good. Just like Salisbury in MD, or Opa Locka in Miami.
How many times you went to Rio already?
The Police did some action against the crime and is working really good. I had the same impression about Rio because I'm from Sao Paulo, but I just loved and I NEVER got stolen in anywhere.
Florianopolis is a tourism city, just like Miami. There is good and "slow" season.
North Side of the Beaches of Sao Paulo, Ubatuba Beach:
Sao Paulo is huge and magical!
Hater's gonna hate... lol... but DONT STOP THE PARTY! made in Brazil!
