how is Santa Monica as a vacation spot?
all the travel sites say it's nice but someone i know from cali said that it isn't all that nice and a lot of the LA riff raf come out to play that way. my family is going out to cali on vacation and i don't want them in a bad area. please advise. oh and they are staying at the lowes.

Ya, it's not really a family vacation place. You could spend a day there walking around the promenade and on the pier and stuff. And Venice Beach / Abbot Kinney is a lot of fun, but I wouldn't take kids down that way, lol.

It's the beach, what's not to love...they got spots for everybody there.

I was there a couple months ago. Definitely a cool place to spend walking around and taking pics for about an hour. But that's about it.

You could spend maybe a day around there... Not really a vacation spot. It's more of a place I take visitors to for a few hours when they're in LA for something else.

I wouldn't really spend more than a day there, I also wouldn't be on Venice boardwalk after dark, all the crazies come out to play.
