Kiawah Island, South Carolina
Magnificent. They rent villas, or if you know someone with one of the fabulous mansions, borrow that. Moderate security, but mostly pro-forma. Dining is absolutely PHENOMENAL! Spend $120.00 on breakfast for three, and worth every....single....penny.
"If you have the means, I highly suggest it." Not a party atmosphere, a serene country-club atmosphere, including a clubhouse in the style of the opening of "Layer Cake", but three times the size! I always know i'm in the right place when the sally-port is almost 3 stories high.Si vis pacem, para bellum.

I took the family there a few years back and had a great time. Super fun place. Your recommendation is right on.

Old thread that I just saw, but wanted to +1 the recommendation.
I have been all over that area (Tybee, HHI, IOP, etc.) and keep going back to Kiawah for the golf and spa. Great place!

+1 to all of the above. Was in Kiawah 3 weeks ago for a wedding, stretched it out to 5 days and couldn't be happier that we did. My wife and I rented a villa with two other couples and we're already planning our trip back.

It's nice, and there are places as nice that are FAR cheaper down here. Im form Detroit originally, and keep finding amazing places here that seem to have avoided the maps.
You should see the private homes in the surrounding Charleston areas of James island and Daniel island that will make you head spin. The first one I married for "love". The second one I thought I had it all figured out. The third.. well she just knows how to f@ck. Game Over.

I was there a few weeks ago as well, absolutely loved it.
Easy drive from ATL, will probably go back in a month or so to get away again.

The best hidden resort in SC is Pawleys Island. That is where I am from and I worked at Litchfield Beach and Golf... Private Ocean front Villas, Low Rates usually, Less people on the beach, but if you go down a little, they have a HUGE Beach Bar. Dont have to worry about people breaking into your cars.
In my one summer working I met a ton of celebrities for a small town south of myrtle beach. Bam Margera, Eminem, Kevin James, and Adam Sandler. I even talked with Eminem, while I was renting him and his daughter a bike, and he said he came there every year. He said it was quiet and no one bothered him. A few people from L4P have been to the area, and if I am around I try to show them the hidden things to do that are pretty fun.Current
No Car... bummer dude
