Default Cell Phones in Hong Kong and Australia?

Im going to both Hong Kong and Australia in 2 weeks from now, and will either get a new sim card, or take my phone and get a 120$ add-on to get roaming minutes.

My question to you guys, have you ever bought a sim card from HK or Australia? and what does it include. I want to get the sim card from either HK or either Aus, would prefer Aus tho..

sim cards are sold at 7-11 in HK. super cheap to call local so buy the lowest value one.

not sure about AU but i'm pretty sure it's that way too.

get a blackberry, or nokia here. you unlock it here, then buy a sim card there.

Its how I do it at least, and its the cheapest way. I have google voice on my regular cell, so texts and vm still go through if needed.

pretty cheap here is Australia and many phone companies to choose from. Just get a simcard/credit here would be my advice....

AND... Skype for most of your calls back home. By far the cheapest way to call back to the states.

Check out.... Prepaid Mobile | Prepaid Internet | Prepaid Sim | Mobile Internet

    Some good information there.

ditto on going to 7eleven. get a PCCW pre-paid sim card for 60HKD. make sure to get the one with free long distance calls. it's $0.25/minute to receive and call... but you can to call anywhere in the world for the same rate. i've been here for 9 months and am still using the same card. i just keep adding $100HKD every month.

magic jack sucks unless you like talking ol school ship to shore radio style with 3 second delay

pick up a phone and prepaid sim in HK on basically any street corner, $50 and your talking to home all week long.
