Curacao
So the g/f and I are heading to Curacao in October. We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency. I know it is a bit out of the way but as she works for Hyatt here, you just can't beat the deal. We are going to stay 5 nights. Does anyone have any suggestions on this that are a must do? We plan to use the time to relax and lounge around the resort but I would like to sort of explore the island or at least make it "downtown" one day just to see it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It may be a little out of the way, but from when I checked, plane tickets were pretty cheap overall.
My sister is about to deploy there in the Air Force. I looked at maybe going to visit for a couple days. Once thing I found via google that seemed pretty cool is hiking to the highest point on the island: Caribbean adventure travel: Hiking Mt Christoffel in Curacao (photos)

Thanks for the post. The only issue is that my g/f (due to a car accident when she was younger) has some orthopedic issues (back and knee) so that would be difficult for us to do.

Visit Westpunt, and spend a few hours at playa forti (cliff jumping). North coast a spot called playa canoa, which can have good waves (and should be good from October to about march), but be sure to check the wave reports online, otherwise you're just wasting your time going there...
Mambo beach is a very popular spot with great food. A friend of mine owns it and just completely rebuild the place, on the pictures it looks aces.
Also make a trip to klein curacao, a must!
The Hyatt is at barbara beach which is very nice. Don't know the hotel personally though, I moved away from the island when it was being built.
Of course the diving is recommended, I loved porto marie.
It's a very safe island, don't walk into streets you normally won't walk into and you'll be hundreds.

Also, ask the hotel if ''Equus'' is still open. A friend of mine, Roger, ran his stables there, and every friday he would cook the most amazing meat. Great nights those where. I'm sure it'll still be open, get there early otherwise you won't get a table. No reservations either.
Sari Fundi in the spanish water has good food, and you'll sit on the water looking over the harbour.

Thanks for all the help. We were also hoping to find a place that did horseback riding on the beach. Is this something Equus would do? or do you know of any place that would offer that?

most beaches are in a bay and then they go to rock again, making it difficult for horses to get to. The beaches are simply to short unfortunately.
They do do bush riding, but it's not nearly the same as beach riding.
