Costa Rica is really nice, except its getting alot more touristy now. I lived there for a few years when I was younger (98-00), and it was definitely a lot better without so many tourist. I go back every year to see my family, and every year it's the same story: $$$.

I stayed at Anse Chastanet on St. Lucia and it was fantastic. The road there was so horrible I was sure I had been duped, but once there, it couldn't be beat for a romantic destination. We had a hillside room with a tree growing through the center of it and a picture-perfect view of the Pitons. Amazing food, great local entertainment performing, dive shop, it was awesome. I think they have added to it since I was there, so maybe the villa we stayed in is no longer there (I can't find a picture of our room on the net, and there used to be a ton of them). Everyone we encountered on the island was very friendly and low key. Very hospitality oriented.
