yes modern technology is better, but when you think that really what you're buying is a chassis and building it from there you can keep it pretty light and make it very powerful. also realize, it by law(being a kit) doesn't need safety features that a production car needs. nor does it need all the crap like navi/full leather/power seats.

Thats the problem that all modern cars are plagued with. People think more is better, and the government is getting more and more strict. I just can't believe that no Lambo, Ferrari, Pagoni etc with the piles of R+D money that goes into them haven't even come close to the same speeds as a 20 year old car!
Can adding a couple hundred pounds of interior really wreck cars this much? or have we really reached perfection with a cheap steel chassis from 2 decades ago?I build dream cars.

In those 2 decades the driveability of supercars has increases tremendously.
Now basically everyone who can differentiate between his right and left leg can drive a fast sportscar. 2 decades ago this would have been not possible especially if you wanted to drive them fast.
Also you can't compare most modern sportscars to an Ultima as the Ultima is pure race like a Gumpert Apollo and Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc. are more grand tourer than race cars as they are supposed to combine both driveability on the street and good times around the track.
So modern sports cars are more compromised as a Ultima that's why they are heavier and not really faster even though there are 20 years of R&D between them. Not putting miles on your (super)car is like having the hottest girlfriend, but not banging her very often because you want her to be tighter for her next boyfriend.
