many many teams have made it three straight teams to the finals....a lot of em with way less firepower than the lakers.

they would be even considered the most stacked team (behind the heats now) even if they were missing kobe and had just another top 10 player.

    great young center
a 7 footer who can do it all
a 6'10 who can do it all
    a defensive badass
the best player in the league.

they should be winning everything...66 percent effectiveness in the finals is not something to brag about when you are that stacked

but hey....maybe what they are missing is class....clearly evident by odom and bynums cheapshots and artests cheap shots 2 games before.

we'll have to see who is right.

agreed that the Heat winning it all doesn't bode well for future player movements - it's the worst thing that can happen to the league imo & the owners should demand some sort of franchise player designation in the upcoming cba.

likewise, i wouldn't be surprised to see owners fighting for some sort of contract dumping - everyone should be able to erase one bad decision. these arenas-like (lewis-like, etc, etc) are killing teams.

regardless, i see Howard staying. he likes orlando - a lot. why can't he be the one recruiting people? instead of going somewhere else? there are really only 2 more bad contract years; after that, arenas & turkoglu are in their final years and you can easily trade those away (provided the rules are still favorable in that regard.)

besides, Arenas says he'll score 40+ points/game if he got his 40 minutes

Howard can't recruit people if there's no cap flexibility. The Magic are dead in the water for the Summer of 2012 FA bonanza, as even w/o Howard counting towards the cap they're still going to be over whatever the new cap number will be when the Collective Bargaining Agreement gets renegotiated.

How can a player in his prime wait until 2013 for a possible trade to occur?? Especially if some more "supercombos" form in 2012 when Chris Paul or Deron Williams sign/resign with clubs that have the cap space to add some more star pieces? And if trends continue like this past trading deadline, expiring contracts aren't going to carry much trade value. My Warriors had $15M in contracts they were trying to flip into something worthwhile, and there weren't any takers.

The ugly truth about the Magic's cap situation can be seen here:

HoopsHype - NBA Salaries - Orlando Magic

I'd expect all the player options to be exercised.

Unless they find a sucker GM to trade with, the Lakers won't be bringing in anyone of note.......
