Golf club help
Hey guys,
Well I finally decided I'm going to try and learn golf this Summer. I wanted to buy a cheap set of golf clubs to learn on, but wasn't sure what route to take. I don't know that much about clubs.
So far I got a driver and 3 wood from a family friend (it is a Callaway 3 wood, and don't know the brand of the driver). I also have an Odyssey putter. So basically I'm in need of some irons. My friend recommended I look on ebay for some Ping irons that are a bit older. However, I don't know the difference between them.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kunal

anything pretty much that callaway and taylor made makes is user friendly to beginning golfers. my advice is to pick up a used set of either or for $200, learn the game and when you get down to a "comfortable" handicap, invest in some nice clubs. then again, i've had my titleist blades for about 10+ years.
oh, and anything in the x-series for callaway are great learning irons. anything from the big bertha irons, to the x-12's, x-14's, etc. are great.Last edited by misterkye; 07-09-2009 at 11:56 PM.

I agree with the callaway suggestion.. Big berthas would be a great set of irons to start with.. Very forgiving and provide alot of loft for a starter needing to get the ball up.

I play with Taylor Made, never had any complaints and the clubs have held up. I would recommend just hitting a lot of different brands to find what you like the best.

There are so many options when it comes to irons.. Since your a beginner I suggest you get a cavity back set. Theyre a bit more forgiving..

Nice advice here, I'm in the same boat as the OP. Are Cleveland clubs any good?

Well I picked up the free clubs. They are made by RAM. I've never heard of them. I hit with a couple of the irons (7 and PW), and I could feel every ball through the club into my arms. I think I may stick with them until I get a few lessons and then maybe buy some Pings or Callaways or Taylor Mades.
Thanks for the advice.
