[Looking for Advice] Driving from Long Island, NY => Miami, Florida
I expect to leave around 2AM Sunday, or should I wait till later in the morning? (I know the ride is supposed to take 20-24 hours)
I stayed at the Fontainebleau a few years ago but I am thinking of getting a cheap hotel for like $80/night. I remember seeing signs that you have to be a guest to use the beach so, I am unsure of how access to the beaches in "general" work.
Am I required to stay at a hotel in order to get to the beach? Or can anyone just "walk-in?" Or are there private/public beaches?
Its going to be me and the girl for a quick escape! So please provide any advice on the drive, and what/where to go in Miami!Last edited by ImPulSe; 04-16-2011 at 06:50 PM.

$1600 for a flight? I paid a fourth of that when flying to MIA from Amsterdam.

The whole beach is public, anyone can go to the water (during daylight hours). Some hotels (a bit more north than the 'south beach' scene) require you to be a guest to be able to walk through their hotel and pool areas to get to the beach. Between most hotels there are public walkways that allow anyone access to the beach.
You should clear up the hotel info before coming down. I think it might be a little more than $80/night if you want to stay near the beach.
How long are you staying for?

the best way for a hotel, is priceline. Pretty much in love with that site.
Just do it same day, 4 star 100 bucks.
