Thread: Bentley Continental Super Sport Test Drive

I like horsepower. A lot of horsepower. 621 in this case. Gary at Desert European Motorcars in Rancho Mirage knows this as well. And thanks to him, he arranged for a silver and black (Raider colors of course!!…hey it was draft weekend!) Supersports for me to test drive. Now, after driving it for 3 days, I can honestly say it would be my hands down choice for a daily driver of any car I’ve driven. I’ve driven a lot of cars and I don’t rave about many, but this car is exceptional. Let me show you why and take a closer look.

First let me go over a brief over view of the differences between this and your run of the mill Continental GT. Obviously the power, 621 hp with 590 ft. lbs of torque. It is over all @ 300 pounds lighter. The brakes are carbon ceramic. There are no back seats. The transmission has been re calibrated for faster shifts and the entire suspension got a nice tweeking for better handling. It sounds pretty nice but when combined on the road it makes for a huge difference in the way the car performs.

Its not just fast, its brutally fast for a car of this size. The 621 horsepower and 590ft lbs of torque will make short work of most any road. But its not just that, its the way the power is so usable. I kept the transmission in Sport mode most of the time. There is no lag with the twin turbo W-12 and it just gets up and rolls. This car would be devastating on wide open roads where after 60mph you’ve shed the weight and are able to let the power and torque take over. This car screams for an event like a Gold Rush Rally where you have long stretches to use the massive power band.
