The food looks great, but I'd have to give a full point deduction for using powdered wasabi. Correct me if I'm wrong.

wrong. it was very very finely grated but, yes, it does look powdered in the pics. if it was powdered wasabi, it would still be amateur hour (and i would lose any credibility i might have had.)

secure - you've still got a ways to go

illgt2 - monkfish is fine; in fact, i *love* monkfish liver. i *hate* the actual *stomach* - japanese have a weird sense of humor!

Not to hijack your thread, but being married to an Asian, I had to lay a few ground rules- I don't eat fish intestines or blood clots.

Glad to read that it was fresh wasabi.

Mitch- Sushi-Sake has some very good toro and mirugai right now. If you have any lunch time tomorrow (thurs) let's grab some.

AJ, I would be all over it normally but I have a lunch meeting with my architect to go over design plans for the project. Maybe we can hit sushi next week!

Me too, but if it gets the least bit old, it turns from buttery to bitter. Maybe Secure gold some older uni.

Secure had it at Urasawa - if he doesn't like it there, he'll never like it. 120% guaranteed he didn't eat anything that wasn't caught that morning off of Santa Barbara.

Kirby & Riley - cost - $300/person. For the quality of food, Japan is rather cheap; but i guess the exchange rate doesn't hurt as much as it does w/ the euro.

For similar quality seafood in Spain (they obviously don't do sushi but they do have the 2nd best seafood behind Japan, in my limited experience); something like this would easily cost $600-700 for the quantity and rarity of some items.
