Default NYC - Chicken and rice halal cart on 53rd and 6th

If you are ever in Manhattan this is a definite MUST EAT! I travel to Manhattan about once a month, and a friend that's a chef in LA, always tells me to check this chicken and rice cart out. It's been over a year of my friend egging me on, saying its the best thing. The food itself is nothing extravagent, just chicken, some lamb, rice, and good white/hot sauce. The cart opens from 7:30pm-4am and the line supposedly gets super rediculous, but in the end is supposed to be worth it.

I arrive in NY last Thursday, and the first things my clients want to do is take me to their favorite club in the city, Pink Elephant. After another night of setting deals and drinking like animals, we stumble out of the club. By this time, my friends have shown up and were waiting to take me to go eat. Low and behold, out of nowhere, they tell me that we're going to pick up some food at a food cart on 53rd.

We arrive to the spot, only to see the line 2 blocks long! I guess it helps knowing people around town, cart vendors INCLUDED. My friend pulls up to the cart, gets out, slaps hands with the guys running the cart and tells them how many orders they need. We get the food and we're off. The food smells delicious, can't wait to dig in! I take a peak at the food: the portions are quite large and come with 2 sauces: a white one (I'm assuming a variation of a cucumber/yogurt sauce) and a hot sauce.

We arrive to a friends karaoke bar to eat and meet up with the rest of our group. All I must say is "DAMN, THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST MEAL I'VE HAD IN A WHILE!!!!" I don't know what it is exactly about this dish, but it's so good! It's simple, comes with great sauces, and is open late! Something perfect for us night owls.

If you're in Manhattan, of course hit up the famous restaurants around town, but definitely make room for some late night chicken/rice at the halal cart on 53rd and 6th, you won't regret it.

Everyone raves about this cart. I have eaten from it many times but I dont see the appeal. It has to be because everyone is sauced from drinking all night that they think it is that much better. It is good but its nothing to rave about imho.

This stuff definitely hits the sweet spot. I blame the white sauce.

people have different tastes. the best foods i've found were walkin the streets of asia and europe, tasting foods from all the street vendors. granted, the quality might not be of the highest caliber, it certainly tastes great. i'm a foodie, and i like to dine at all the foodie spots wherever i go, but this kind of food is the perfect definition of comfort food. regardless of me being "sauced," this stuff is AWESOME.

+1. The cart at W4th and University, or a bit east of University rather, is much better.
