Default Sawa (Sunnyvale) - best sashimi in the country

fusionstorm will disagree, and it's open to argument, but i think Sawa consistently has the best sashimi in the country. Urasawa (LA) and Masa (NYC) have better sushi, but Sawa's fish is generally better.

bCaHnIaCnKa, ackm3, and i met up last week for this feast - raw lobster (killed before our eyes), scallops, kobe beef, some of the freshest uni you'll ever taste, & more...

Hmmm, can't remember us having a difference of opinion re: Sawa (although I would say that bestowing the title of "best sashimi in the US consistently" is impossible, as relationships and customs issues with key suppliers from Tsukiji can be a fluid thing). Guess we'll need to have a Bay Area GTG involving Sawa, Sakae and Sushi Sam's to fuel the discussion.......

Now as for your thoughts about Manresa being the best in the area, we might have some disagreement......

i don't disagree but that's why i used consistently, instead of an absolute.

i thought you were firmly in the Sakae camp - guess i remembered wrong.

not best in the area, best in the country but i've been there too much so my meals are probably not representative of a normal meal there anymore.

Can't believe I still haven't made it out to Sawa! This meal you posted definitely appears the most appetizing of the Sawa ones you've shared before.

I wouldn't put Sakae ahead of Sawa if quality of fish & presentation are the only criteria. Whether I could justify the price delta between the two is debatable. I wouldn't have the same debate if we were talking about Urasawa vs. Sakae (I've never been to Masa).

My issue with Manresa is Kinch's over-reliance at times on Japanese influenced courses. I've had a couple of meals there where it seemed like 1/3 of the tasting menu courses were sashimi or sashimi-based.
