THAT, I can agree with you on! lol.
I have only a few weeks left in a university classroom and have a few options. It's not easy. And to be honest, I'm lucky to have options, many of my friends are going back to summer jobs.
Problem is, my options are in vastly different directions. I've always wanted to run a tech startup. No matter what, I will always be working on something like that on the side.
Now, as far as a career job, it'll be either Real Estate Development or a once in a lifetime chance to be working on Parliament Hill in the capital here in Canada.
If I pursue real estate I will be taking some classes at MIT this summer to boost my resume.
If I want to pursue politics my candidate has to win a federal election taking place right now through until May 2nd. So that decision will be made for me likely. It's going to be a close race in my riding so I'd say I have a 50/50 chance of this going my way. If he wins, I don't think I could pass it up.
It would be prudent to not have a fallback plan. I never saw myself pursuing politics (my undergrad) but the job I'd have would be a fast paced, well paying job that would really increase my competitiveness for a top MBA program after a couple years.
Real estate, and the built environment, has always been of great interest to me. I have researched getting a MArch, MSRED, and going straight into the workforce as much as I can. It's a bit of an old boys club and this is where I am at in the real estate game. Just made some connections and wanted to know which route is most advantageous for new entry into the field, with little experience.
You'll also notice I don't spend 1/10th of the time on L4P anymore. Why? Because I'm busting my ass everyday, which is paying off as more options have come to me. Exciting times, just big decisions. I have interests in such a wide variety of things.
But as Steve Jobs said in his Stanford address, "you can never connect the dots moving forward, only looking back." Hopefully I can tie all my interests together as I move forward."Whatever you're thinking, think bigger." - Tony Hsieh

I find that breaking a window is the best way to break into real estate unless the homeowner left a door unlocked. Use your elbow and wear long sleeves.
Don't argue with idiots...they will just bring you down to their level then beat you with experience!

I'll channel my inner Canadian a la Vancouver, should do the trick!
In reality, I've managed an unorthodox way into a substantial development in my city. I'll be project managing and learning as much as I can from the investors. Also director of the business within once completed! Very excited.Last edited by lifeoftheparty.; 06-19-2011 at 04:25 AM.
