Thread: LA County - Don't Get Your Mail Today!!!!!!

Property tax in America started with the emancipation of slaves in America. The whole "40 acres and a mule" bit but the government created a tax calle the property tax and levied it upon the landowner. So now it's 2010 and we pay the same thing. Things they don't teach in school anymore.

Eminent domain solidified this. You don't own real estate in America. You lease the privilege of using it. You really think you truly own your property? OK, don't pay taxes and see what happens.

That said, we roll our property taxes in escrow along with our mortgage and home owner insurance. But at the price we pay, I'm not complaining that much, except on principles of taxation.

I don't understand people who think it's OK for every single thing to be taxed multiple times.

i agree we tax way too many items in this country to pay for programs or stuff that probably isn't necessary, my gripe is when people complain about paying ANY tax. guess they figure everything they have in life is deserved and free.

Probably delete that last line in your post to keep it apolitical.

The property tax is basically rent paid to the government for use of the land. Property ownership in this country is messed up for sure and defies logic.

Because of the waste and irresponsibility that it goes towards! There is currently a bond measure in my city for the school system that goes against property owners. I'm also a friend of the district superintendent so we had a conversation about this just yesterday. If the funds were going to be accounted for and put to a good use that I could understand, I would be more than happy to give. The bond will go to improve the actual facilities which I CAN get behind but what it really does is free up what is generally allocated to facilities for teacher raises which at this time I CANNOT get behind. There are intricacies within that would need to be put more in detail as to why of course.

I give to my church and other organizations that show where the money goes to. If there was waste within to support an unneeded bureaucracy then I would not give so freely. I will give where needed….unfortunately; I don’t feel that they need any more than they have. As many have said, we don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. Just read the latest CA budget and you will see that. The income that they have forecast is INSANE and they are just putting that number there in order to increase spending and then come to the taxpayers later and say……”The money didn’t come in….time to raise taxes!!!”

That is why I have an issue with taxes….not all taxes….but the excess taxes.

I wasn't complaining about paying any taxes, I was complaining about paying a tax for owning a property....something about this tax seems so wrong
