    Default Neighborhood or Estate

Hey guys, if you had a choice of building your dream home in the 6,000 SQFT range, would you build in a neighborhood of similar sized houses or would you buy a couple of acres and build on it. Trying to make up my mind.
You're born, you take sh*t. You get out in the world, take more sh*t. Climb a little higher, take less sh*t. Then one day when you're in the rarified atmosphere, you've forgotten what sh*t even looks like. Welcome to the Layer Cake son.

    Do you have children?

With children, I think the neighborhood would be a better choice.

Also depends on how much "free time" you have away from your career to enjoy the "estate".

Yep 2 little boys. By estate, I mean at most 2 acres. Riding mower is a must no matter what I get.

I'd always prefer the 2 acre route. Not sure how it is in your areas, but we have some very nice areas which have 1.5-3 acre lots which are still "neighborhoods". That would be ideal. In the end, if you have a house you are happy with, and a yard that is usable, I think you'll be happy in either scenario.

With kids, I think having other kids around in the neighborhood is important..

I hate seeing 300+k dollar houses laid out like downtown, with buildings that can be joined with an ironing board.

I love land and being able to go outside and work the yard. At the same time, when I didn't have such a yard, leaving town was much easier.
