Default Looking for inspiration: Need flooring advice

My house flooded so I have to redo the floors downstairs. I want to do either tile or polished/stained concrete.

The two rooms will be my pool room (walls neutral, pool table has red felt) and my Den (neutral sectional, black a/v equipment, black curtains, red walls).

Post up some pics or ideas for good looking/modern/clean tile foors or polished concrete floors. Thanks!

What do you have in the rest of the house?

House is two story. Upstairs is all dark hardwoods. Downstairs is all needing to be replaced after the flood.

I know others might disagree, but I would say to put hardwood in the basement too. BUT that is only if you have solved the problem of flooding. Also keep in mind that the warranty of hardwood goes out the window when you take it downstairs to be installed. If you want just a cozy and simple solution go with a carpet, but personally because of my allergies I prefer a clean hardwood.

I think pictures would help us give you better advice.

On another note, I like laminate in the basement. Installation is a breeze since it's a floating floor, also, I found that buying good quality laminate is maybe even harder than hardwood. I've dropped dumbells in my basement and I can't see any scuffs or dents.

Just a word of caution if you're going to install laminate. make sure to leave 1/4inch gap to allow it to expand and contract, otherwise, it's a PITA!

Agree, it expands and contracts quite a bit, especially in the basement because of the temperature changes.

That looks interesting. I didnt even know you could stain it. BUT it will be fairly cold in the winter. Maybe if you use radiant heating underneath it will be good.

I play ice hockey so a cold house doesn't bother me much, haha.

I was born and raised in snow. I love it too, but it might hurt the resale value if you have an ice rink in the basement. haha
