Have 2500 sq ft right now and rent out 500 of that. Just two of us in 2000 sq ft. Very livable but it does fall short for the entertaining that we would like to do. It could have had a better floor plan. I use the smallest bedroom as an office/ storage/ workshop. That leaves us with only one bedroom as a guest room.
Earlier this month we celebrated my wife's graduation (double major-double SumaCumLaude
) and had a lot of family coming in from out of town. We were in-between renters for the apartment so with that space we were making plans to have enough room and sleeping gear for 18 people to spend the night in the house lol. slumber party style.
Our master bedroom is over sized so it doubles as the workout room with weight bench and treadmill.
Living room is too small and separated from the kitchen.
I'd say with a better floor plan 1000 sq ft per person is just fine for "settled in".

We have 3500 sqft, 4 of us here... although 1 of the kids is moving out next month and the other shouldn't be far behind.
Wife and I have been seriously considering a MAJOR downsizing... like even sub 1,000 sqft (of living space). Most likely will end up with 2000'ish. The main issue is that most home just aren't laid out as efficiently as you like. And for that matter.... this house worked very well for us in 2000 when we built it, but life changes.
So... smaller home for us for sure. Although we want some property ideally (5+ acres) and would build a decent sized shop/garage.

Current house is 1500 sq ft, with about 800 sq ft finished basement and single garage. Ideally I would want around 2500 sq ft living space and a large working garage. I purchased my current home as a starter, and with the Military I will be forced to move in 4 years or so and will be able to purchase a longer term home.

2350sq ft. under air. I live alone, way more room than I need, but I like the space. Previous house was 1300 sq ft. and that was fine.

Currently have a 2,694 sq foot home sitting on a 1/4 acre lot. I hate HOA, so i'm looking for another home, with no HOA, big garage, 1 acre or more.
My dream would be to have a 4,000+sq ft garage, with a 2,000 sq ft home. But i'm a young combat disabled retired soldier, so I gotta be realistic.
I think around 3- 3,500 sq ft not including garage, and a 4 car garage is something I can live in the rest of my life. Oh yeah, you gotta have at least an acre too.

3BR, 2 Ba ~1,200 sqft. It's way more room than I need but I didn't want to live in an apartment. I'd really like a house on the lake, but I need to find a better job to pull something like that off.

I live in a 2500 sq/ft 2 story house with my girlfriend. We rent from her father. We have 4 bedrooms upstairs that I see maybe once every 2 weeks and an office is downstairs with our master bedroom. We only have a 2 car garage which leaves one of our cars outside. Not our ideal house as we clearly do not use half of its space. I would like to be in a 1800-2000 sq/ft single floor home with a 3 car.

I sold my 1 story 1825 sq ft house in FL with two car garage recently. Moved into a 1650 sq ft main and 1600 sq ft basement house with oversized 3 car garage. We don't use the basement much, but it has storage and guest rooms that are needed. I mainly like the 18 ft ceilings in living room with wall of windows overlooking Pike's Peak. Doesn't need to be as large. 2500 sq ft 1 level with 3 car garage is the ideal house for most. My FL home was fine too though.

I currently own a 1350SqFt 2 floor home that is on a lake in NorthEast Ohio. It is just me and my girlfriend for now. Plenty of space, 3 Bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, good size kitchen, and a 2 car garage. I am able to keep both of my vehicles in the garage at all times, so no need to complain there! Back patio has a great view of the lake. I would like to keep this home until I plan to have children, but for now, it's just a perfect "bachelor pad". The perfect home for me would be around 2500 Sqft with 4 bedrooms, a theater entertainment room, good size pool, a large back yard. and at least a 4 car garage!
