Top 10 Hottest Housing Markets in The United States
So the housing market is in the dumps, is it? These 10 communities in the country are telling a completely different story as housing costs are going up. Never forget that while there are macro trends in real estate they do not affect all communities equally. The media will lump this nebulous concept of real estate into 1 big bucket because it makes things easy for them, but do not get sucked into their malaise.
Every real estate market is different, and in each real estate market you will have hundreds of micro trends. If the people in Salt Lake City were listening to the media they would be giving their homes away, but instead they are enjoying a 21 percent increase in value.
You should take that as a lesson and find out exactly what is happening in your town or city before listing, you maybe surprised that the bleak news coming from your television bears no resemblance to the reality of the realty market.

This is interesting. It would be cool to figure out what may be sustaining these kind of housing trends in those markets. I'm guessing it's job driven, so what industries/companies are in those regions which are holding up the fort?

When people run from a high loss market or high tax market they tend to go to more obscure places where the housing costs arent so high. My parents in northern michigan live on 240 acres surrounded by state land in a 6 bedroom 5800 sq foot house.. appraised value $360,000. To a person leaving cali or florida due to housing market thats a mansion for nothing.

Thats exactly what is happening in this market. Everyone is jumping the border from NJ over to this area because property taxes in NJ are out of control. There were a lot of good deals in Bethlehem because Bethlehem steel went under leaving properties to just sit. Now PA has approved the casino and resort that is going to take over the old Bethlehem steel so that is driving prices as well. I was looking at properties here last year but had to stop due to a new business. I'm going to be looking here again as well as Reading PA.
