Default How to track down original owner? GT2 Help!

    Hi guys,

I just recently found out my GT2 is tuned as indicated by 1.2+ bar readings. I am the second owner and thought the car was stock. I'm trying to track down the original owner to find out who tuned the car since I'm selling it, and I have a potential buyer who wants to know that information. Any ideas how I can go about this? I bought the car at the Porsche dealership, not from the first owner directly. I believe the original owner was from Texas.

    VIN: WP0AB29942S696073

Hope you guys can help! I need to get this car off my hands.

you can get 1.2bar readings for many reasons, not just tuning. what leads you to believe it is tuned other than the boost?

first mod for any turbo car should be a proper boost gauge. the stock Porsche gauge sucks. i know - i blew an engine thanks to its uselessness.

is that under full load? a stock 996 gt2 can spike to 1.4bar, stock is .9bar. and i don't know of a factory turbo car where the boost gauge is accurate, they're more like engine load gauges

chances are that if you bought it from a dealer, it doesn't have any kind of tune on it.

    Thanks for the response guys!

Well the reason I believe, besides the 1.2 bar reading, is that the dealership gave it a PPI since I'm looking to sell it, and said their computers couldn't get the ECU information and that was an indication to them that it was tuned.

I don't know if it was under full load. I was in third gear and going onto the highway, and I put my foot down, changed into 4th gear and kept my foot down and then slowed and the guy said I had a reading of 1.2 bar and said it was tuned. I don't really think it was full load, I've felt the car accelerate faster before.

It just gives me the location of the original owner, that's about it. Apparently there's a law that DMV can't give out info on car owners.

    you need to either:

1 - check the turbo system & make sure all hoses & valves are operating correctly. a blown waste gate hose, BOV hose, or broken waste gate, will lead to spikes - which will lead to a blown engine. iirc you're in NY, so the cooler temps will also yield higher boost, and magnify existing problems.

    or:

2 - re-program the ECU back to stock. i forget if dealers can do this but aftermarket tuners like EVO can easily put a stock program in your existing ECU.

(4th gear, full throttle will yield a full load. better yet, put it into 4th at a slower than normal speed, and then press the gas for the fullest load. how high does the boost go?)

The car has only 8,000 miles on it, and I brought it to Porsche and a friend who test drove and inspected the car saying there isn't anything wrong with car, no breaks in any seals... The car is practically new. It's cooler in NY, so that could definitely give me higher readings, but I've read that stock 996 GT2's were only reading .9Bar maximum.

I don't think I'm going to be able to track down the owner... I'll probably need a court to get me the info. There's a ton of legislation protecting previous car owners.

I'm going to give Softronic a call in the morning, see if they have my VIN on record.
